December 24th - Merry christmas from Byron Bay!! ;)

So, it's christmas today - can't believe! Or actually australians celebrate on the 25th so the real party is tomorrow..

Surf camp from was great! We went surfing in some really beautiful places between Sydney and Byron Bay and arrived here on Friday. Surfing was great!! I had a good time and met a bunch of awesome people! Every day we were surfing for maybe six hours, had lunch at the beach and dinner and usually a party or movie night in the evening. O Friday we had a surf competition and I won - crazy, didn't think it went that well.. ;)

On Friday evening we went out for dinner and partying to Cheeky Monkeys. On Saturday we just went to the beach and relaxed and then had dinner in a really good Asian restaurant! On Sunday we did a tour to Nimbin which is a small crazy hippie drug town close to Byron. It's crazy how that kind of places exist!! It took like 30 seconds till the first person came to ask: "Do you wanna buy marijuana, cookies, mushrooms...?" Well, didnt' buy.. Yesterday the german girl Tina from Perth came to Byron! So nice to see her and get to spend christmas with her! In the evening we had an awesome bbq at the hostel with Tina and some people from the surf camp; Tero and Laura from Finland, Cedric from France and Canan from Germany. We had some chicken and kangaroo and corn and lots of other vegetables and garlic bread - was the best dinner for a long time!! :) Sooo good!

Today morning I went surfing with a german guy Florian - was fun but the waves were a bit difficult so it didn't go that well...

Today we'll probably have a christmas dinner somewhere and tomorrow the real christmas party! I'll probably stay here in Byron Bay till friday - it's such a nice place! Then we'll go to Fraser Island for New Years with Tero, his brother Tommi, Laura and Canan. So much fun to go with them! Laura and Tero went to Noosa for christmas and we'll meet again in Hervey Bay before Fraser. It was funny when I first met them! I was waiting for the surf camp bus on monday morning and the I just heard someone saying MOI (hi in finnish). I thought I heard it wrong and probably looked really confused and then they asked me in english if I was from Finland.. They had seen my finnish flag in my backpack.. Was so weird to speak finnish that much first time for six months but now it's going pretty well already.. ;) Laura and Tero are also from Helsinki which is cool! They arrived in Sydney on Sunday evening but their backpacks didn't.. So they did more than half of the surf camp with no luggage at all! And the lost luggage was only a beginning for Laura.. The first day surfing she broke her foot from two different places and couldn't surf anymore.. I felt so bad for her but she is awesome, had a good time and was smiling anyway! And one more thing - unbelievable! On wednesday she bit a chocolate bar and lost her front tooth! Crazy...

Merry christmas and enjoy the christmas food!! (I had noodles and tuna for lunch today.. ;)

Sunday 16.12. - Sydney

Hey again from Sydney! Can't believe that it's christmas in a week!! People are walking around wearing those christmas hats and you hear christmas songs everywhere!

The last few days have gone really fast going around Sydney.. It's been really rainy except for yesterday.. I went to Manly beach and it was really nice there!

It's crazy - I didn't meet any finnish people for almost six months and now here on the east coast I've started seeing them everywhere! There are two finnish girls in this hostel and the other one of them is from the same university! A couple of days ago I got to speak a lot of finnish for the first time for a long time! I met a friend of a friend and his friend who are working here in Sydney - was fun to speak finnish! :)

Tomorrow I'll go on a five day surf camp!! Can't wait! Five months in Australia and still haven't been surfing at all! So during the five days we'll go to different places along the coast and arrive in Byron Bay on friday. And then I'll probably spend christmas there!

Thursday 13. December - Sydney

Hey! I'm still here in Sydney - kind of got stuck in here because I wanted to do this surf camp up to Byron Bay. However, all the three hundred camps going up depart on monday mornings!!

So, I'll hang out in Sydney over the weekend and leave early on monday morning. I just booked the 5 day camp and also some other stuff - 3 day Fraser tour, 3 day Whitsundays sailing, 2 day Cape Tribulation safari, 3 day Noosa canoeing trip (this one I got for free, yippee ;) and also some accommodation. Got this all pretty cheap - makes more sense to book it all now since I can fix the dates later and it's A LOT cheaper to take one of these packages.

Today I'll also move to another hostel which has a bit better location (and it's 1 dollar cheaper!;) So, the new address will be close to Central Station - hostel's name is George something - can't remember..

So, on Sunday we took the ferry to Manly, which was really nice! The weather wasn't too good but the place was nice! It's supposed to be a bit warmer this weekend so I might go there again! On Monday we did a tour to the Blue Mountains. Had an awesome day - walked around the rainforest and saw nice views over the mountains (well, didn't see very well because it was so foggy..) Also, our tour guide was great and he took us to a lot of places where not many tours go! In the evening we went for dinner with Michael and his friend Daniel to a sushi restaurant - was really good! On tuesday we went to Bondi and walked along the coast and found this really nice cafe! Sarah and Hanna took the night bus in the evening and headed up north.. I went to the harbour and took some pictures of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. However, it started raining A LOT and I got soaking wet on my way back... ;) Was refreshing though...

Sarah and Hanna are already in Byron - or even in Surfers Paradise - not sure, they're probably taking the bus today I think.. Crazy how good friends you can become in such a short period of time!! Well, basicly we were hanging out all the time for over four months and did quite a lot of travelling spending 24/7 together! But now I already have some new travel plans for next spring - Sweden, here I come! ..If only I have some money left after Australia.. ;)

So, soon I'll go and move my stuff to the new hostel - check in is at one... And after that I'll go and do a walk from Bondi to Coogee and probably go swimming in this sea water pool place by the sea (no sharks in there ;)

Saturday, 8. December - Sydney

So, here we are in Sydney! This is a huge and busy city but I kind of like it a lot! Me, Hanna and Sarah arrived here this morning after a nice 12 hour bus ride from Melbourne. Yesterday evening we went for dinner with a few friends from Murdoch. Almost all the study abroad students are travelling somewhere on the east coast, so I'm pretty sure that I'll meet some more quite soon... ;)

The bus arrived in Sydney around 7 or 8 this morning and then we took a train to our hostel (D'lux Hostel)... Well, I'm not sure if it's luxurious or not but definitely better than the one in Melbourne!! We had this crazy woman in our room who was probably doing something really illegal - had a strange girl bringing her a new passport and telling her what to pack in her bags and what to wear on the flight to South Africa... In the middle of the night she was talking on the phone with someone about drugs, rehab, lawyers, court etc.. Fortunately she left from the hostel at 2 a.m.!

Today, after checking in to our hostel, we took a tourist bus around the city and went to see the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, had lunch in Darling harbour and walked around the city. Just got back from Oxford street where they had a wonderful chocolate cafe (waffles with chocolate, strawberries, icecream and banana ;) !! Soon (as soon as the sun sets) we'll go to this place with a great view over the city!

Tomorrow we're probably gonna take the ferry to Manly beach and just relax the whole day and monday do a day trip to Blue Mountains!

Itsenaisyyspaiva - Thursday 6.12. - Melbourne & Great Ocean Road

Hi from Melbourne!

Here we are in the Elizabeth hostel with Hanna and Sarah. So, in Adelaide we picked up our great brand new rental car and on Tuesday drove almost 700 km to Warrnambool. On Wednesday we hit the road to the Great Ocean Road, which was really beautiful (still we think that Western Australia is the most amazing part of Australia! ;) We spent the entire day on the road and Sarah and Hanna saw koalas but I didn't!! The weather wasn't that good, the temperature went down to 14 degrees which felt FREEZING after the last few weeks with almost 40 degrees in Perth! Yesterday we drove to Torquay and stayed in a blue hostel :) Cooked some good vegetable wok and went to sleep, so exhausted! This morning we drove to Melbourne because we had to return the car by noon... Today we've been walking around the city and just got back to our hostel after a really nice dinner in a restaurant on a tiny little european-kind-of street :) Melbourne is a really nice city! Good Itsenaisyyspaivaa by the way, they had like five flags of Finland in the middle of the city here!! Tomorrow evening we'll take the night bus (only 12 hours...) to Sydney!

Maanantai 3.12. - Adelaide

Tänne Adelaideen siis saavuttiin the Dream Teamin kanssa eilen illalla! Vikat pari päivää Perthissä meni hurjan nopsasti - paljon kavereita ja pakkaamista ja siivoomista (mulle osui meijän kämpän arvonnassa poikien kylppäri...), kiinalaista ruokaa ja mansikkadrinkki Hiltonissa ;) Käväisin vielä Fremantlessa ja löysin hienon turisti-t-paidan! Eilen iltapäivällä menin Saralle ja Hannalle josta Tim sitten heitti meijät kentälle.

Lento oli yllärinä vaan joku reilu kolme tuntia ja bussikin kulki keskustaan sujuvasti. Majoituttiin kahdeksi yöksi Tatts Backpackerssiin, joka on oikein suositeltava paikka - siisti ja hyvällä paikalla (okei, keskusta on niin kompakti, ettei täällä varmaan mikään oo huonolla sijainnilla...), $20 per person per night.

Eilen käytiin syömässä pannukakkuja kuuluisassa 24/7 pannaripaikassa tuossa kulman takana ja sen jälkeen väsyinä nukkumaan... Tänään nukuttiin suht pitkään ja mentiin Central Marketiin aamupalalle - kreikkalaista jugurttia marjoilla ja myslillä - nam :) Näillä on täällä noita jugurttipaikkoja joka puolella... Sit järkkäiltiin vähän jatkoreissua ja käppäiltiin ympäriinsä keskustassa ja joella. Iltapäivällä käytiin Aasialaisessa syömässä, mä söin hyvää hot chicken nuudeleita ja tytöt pahaa sea foodia... Sit otettiin ratikka rantaan Gleneighiin kattomaan vikaa auringonlaskua ennen east coastia - oli hieno mutta täällä on kylmä!!

Huomenna noudetaan vuokra-auto puoliltapäivin ja lähdetään kohti Great Ocean Roadia päätyen Melbourneen torstaina!

Lauantai 1.12.

Noniin, viimeisiä viedään täällä Perthissä… Tuntuu uskomattomalta, että lukukausi on mennyt tuosta vaan! Vaihto on ollut kyllä ehdottomasti yks upeimmista jutuista ikinä! Oon tavannut paljon mukavia ihmisiä ja päässyt tekemään ja näkemään niin paljon hienoja juttuja – uusia kokemuksia ja upeita muistoja on paljon!

Tässä nyt kävi sitten älyttömän sählingin jälkeen niin, että eilen varattiin Saran ja Hannan kanssa lennot Adelaideen huomiselle – eli huomenna illalla sinne siis ;)

Viimeisimmän päivityksen jälkeen on ollut kauheesti kaikkea tekemistä kun oli tenttejä (jee, vika oli eilen!!) ja toisaalta halus viettää mahdollisimman paljon aikaa ihmisten kanssa… Oltiin siis siellä Rottnest Islandilla pari päivää pyöräilemässä ympäri saarta ja nautiskelemassa kesän ensimmäisistä kuumista päivistä (siis lähemmäs 40 astetta…) Aivan upea paikka – loistavia pyöräilyreittejä, uskomattoman hienoja rantoja, quokka-eläimiä ja hyvää seuraa! ;)

Rottnestilta kun tultiin takaisin, niin olin just alkamassa kirjottamaan blogia, kun kämppis Michael tuli mun huoneeseen ihan sekavana – oli sitten saanut sähköiskun näistä ’turvallisista’ pistokkeista täällä… Tehtiin sit reissu tonne sairaalaan ja tarkistivat että kaikki on kunnossa – ja kaikki oli kunnossa, hyvä!

Sen jälkeen onkin ollut kovasti kaikkea mahdollista – bbq King’s Parkissa, leffailtoja, illallisia Freossa, kahvihetkiä hyvien kavereiden kanssa, rantapäiviä Cottesloessa… Ainiin, ja tentteihin lukemista! ;)

Nyt häätävät meidät poies täältä student villagesta niin täytyy keksiä joku muu paikka ens yöks… Michael voitti lahjakortin Hilton Hoteliin ja on siellä tän viikonlopun – meen sit sen lattialle majailemaan ens yöks :) Ja huomenna iltapäivällä sit lennetään Adelaideen Saran ja Hannan kanssa!

Nyt järkkäilen tästä loput tavarat ja sit luovutan avaimeni pois! Pistin jos osan tulemaan postilla – äiti, laitoin sen tulemaan sun nimellä kun en tiedä kuinka nopeesti se tulee, että oonko vielä ite siellä!

Sunday Session Cottesloessa

Lauantai 10.11. - lämmintä +35 :)

Yippee, summer is here!! Kello on 11 illalla ja vieläkin on yli 25 astetta lämmintä ;) Niinpä.. Nyt se sit alkoi kun pitäis alkaa lukemaan tentteihin.. Eilen oli siis vikat luennot ja nyt edessä vaan viikon lukuloma ja tentit! Eilen palautettiin yks ryhmäprojekti, lisäks mä palautin yhen ison esseen ja pidin esitelmän.. Elikkäs oli aika hyvä fiilis sit iltapäivällä :) Tein lenkin tässä lähellä olevan Bibra Laken ympäri ja jouduin lintujen nokittavaks.. :/ Ne on tässä pari viikkoa ollu aika agressiivisia ja yrittäny häätää pois pesiensä läheltä, mutta eilen yks sekopää alko oikeen tosissaan nokkimaan mua päähän!! Illalla oli sitten Triple Crown, eli yliopiston lukukaudenpäättäjäisbileet Fremantlessa, oli kivaa! Tänään oltiin Saran kanssa rannalla ja oli kyllä lämpöistä ;) Äsken kävin Saran luona hakemassa sen pyörän lainaan ja vitsi et oli siistiä pyöräillä ekaa kertaa moneen kuukauteen! :) Viime sunnuntaina täällä Perthissä oli Red Bull Air Race, jota oltiin kattomassa Swan Riverin rannassa, oli hienoa! Huomenna mennään Rottnest Islandille - pyöräilyä, rantoja, uiskentelua, Quokka-eläimiä yms. tiedossa :) Ollaan siellä yks yö ja sit tiistaina alkaa luku-urakka seuraavan viikon tentteihin..

Sunnuntai 28.10. - saunaa, salmiakkia ja tanssiaisia :)

Otsikko kertookin jo lyhykäisyydessään tän viikon pääasiat :) Maanantaiaamu alkoi mukavasti avaamalla kotoa tullut paketti! Ja avaamisesta seurasikin mukava aamupala - salmiakkia!! Nam - siistiä miten hyvältä apteekin salmiakki voi maistua! Sain myös salmiakki-irtokarkkeja ja turkinpippureita (turkkarit odottaa vielä hyllyllä, jee :) Kiitos äiti ja iskä!

Viikko meni kiireisenä Human Resource Economicsin ryhmätyötä tehden ja perjantaina olikin vuorossa Hollywood Galmour Ball Hilton Hotel Perthissä! Kolmen ruokalajin illallinen, hieno paikka, kivoja ihmisiä, hyvää musiikkia - oli kivaa! :) Puolenyön jälkeen päätettiin vielä lähteä jatkoille Northbridgeen (Perthin baarikeskittymäkaupunginosa) The Deeniin. Lauantaina nukuinkin pitkään ja puolenpäivän jälkeen lähdettiin Hannan, Saran ja Giudon kanssa Perthin keskustaan, käytiin Länsi-Australia -museossa ja lounaalla ja kahvilla. Museo oli aika kiva, tarinoita ja kuvia aboriginaaleista, mereneläviä, dinosauruksia ja muita eläimiä.. Mielenkiintoisin osa museota oli kiertävä valokuvakilpailunäyttely - hienoja kuvia!

Ja tänään oltiin Hannan, Saran ja Florianin kanssa uimassa ja porealtaassa ja SAUNASSA!! :) On NIIN hyvä fiilis nyt - miettikää, neljä kuukautta ilman saunaa! Siellä oli kaks saunaa, lämpimämpi oli suht hyvä, ehkä reilu 70 astetta :) Köllötettiin lauteilla ja välillä porealtaassa ja sit taas saunassa ja sit kylmään suihkuun :)

Eli mukava viikko on taas ollut :)

Ainiin, tänään vaihdettiin täällä kesäaikaan, eli aikaero Suomeen on nyt sitten 7 tuntia.


Ja vähän vielä kuvia..

Ekaks pari kuvaa, jotka on otettu joskus pari kuukautta sitten. Eka on Perthistä Swan Riverin rannalta, taustalla kaupungin keskusta ja Swan Bell Tower ja tokassa laiturilla nautiskelemassa aurinkoisesta kevätpäivästä. Sit pari kuvaa Cottesloen rannalta ja Fremantlesta. Aboriginaalitaidekuvassa minä ja intialainen kämppis Satah Freossa. Ja kuten yökuvasta näkyy, Hannan ja Saran parvekkeelta on aika kivat näköalat Perthin keskustaan :) Sit muutama kuva tanssiaisista Hiltonista nyt perjantailta. Ja lopuks muutama eilen otettu kuva Perthin keskustasta (siis mitä?! kesä ja jouluvalot!)
